Restaurant Review: Kumo Sushi Japanese Restaurant (Plainview, NY) 04/03/2007
Written by: Mark "Line" Cansino It's not that often I feel compelled to write a review about a restaurant, but Kumo Sushi was so pleasing that I had to. Kumo Sushi which is nestled in the back of the Manetto Hill Mall in Plainview, NY may hardly be noticed when driving by unless you were to be shopping at the Mall's Fairway supermarket. But this hidden treasure is worth a trip. With a somewhat modern look of wood paneled walls in the dining area and mini ceramic tiled walls at the sushi bar, the atmosphere is quite comfortable and enjoyable. A small closed off area located opposite the sushi bar is good for a party of 8 or a few couples looking for a private meal to enjoy secluded away from the main dining. The staff at Kumo is also worth mentioning. Having gone there twice, tonight being my second time, I've always been greeted, served and waved goodbye and thank you'd even by the chefs behind the sushi bar as I left. The waitress this evening was very friendly, attentive and courteous. As for the food, tonight I decided to have a Bento Box $17 which came with salad, miso soup, white or brown rice, shumai, fruit, california roll (6 pieces) and my choice of two bento box items(teriyaki , maki, sushi, sashimi, tempura as far as I can remember). I chose Chicken and Salmon Teriyaki. The amount of food was overwhelming as I found myself hard to finish everything - and in fact I did not finish all of it without suffering from eating too much. The serving of the salmon and chicken were generous at roughly one half the width of the bento box itself each. All the food was very tasty, the salmon tender while the skin mildly crispy at the bottom just the way I like it. The Chicken also tender and flavorful - All presented well. My prior visit here was just for sushi. I had yellowtail, salmon, tuna, spicy tuna and being a previous inhabitant of Woodbury, NY I had to try the Woodbury roll. Sadly I don't remember what the Woodbury roll was made of but I enjoyed the sushi I had all the same. Domo Arigato Kumo Sushi! -Mark "Line" Cansino Kumo Sushi 18 Manetto Hill Rd.
